The Membership Process

*To further personalize the membership process to meet your specific needs, the reading assigned below may be replaced or adjusted at the discretion of the elders.
The membership process at Cornerstone is a discipleship-based process rather than a classroom-based course; you will work with one of our current members who will walk alongside you through this process.  Much of the learning is self-paced and will involve conversations and interviews along the way.  Though we hope you will pursue this process with diligence, there is no rush.  The goal of the process is to learn the material.  So “apply your heart to instruction, and your ears to words of knowledge” (Proverbs 23:12), that you may gain understanding and walk in wisdom.

Process Objectives

To provide a basis for personal discipleship throughout the membership process

To ensure a sufficient understanding of the doctrine and practice of Cornerstone Church prior to membership

To cultivate a sufficient understanding of, and agreement with, the biblical support for high commitment to the ministry and mission of the local church

To provide a sufficient basis on which a prospective member may make a commitment to membership with a clear conscience before God and men

To provide a sufficient basis on which our Elders may admit someone to membership while fulfilling their responsibilities to the Lord for oversight of the church

To provide a sufficient basis on which our current membership may affirm a credible profession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, may assess a biblical commitment to serve the Lord Jesus Christ as a member of His church, and may receive a prospective member as God in Christ has received them

To cultivate a like-minded fellowship in the Spirit that upholds our commitment to “having the same love, being of one accord,” endeavoring to “keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace,” “being of one body and one Spirit”
